Beyond the Medal: Volha Klimkovich’s Exadel Olympic Games Experience

08.11.2024

For three weeks in September, 150+ Exadellers climbed the virtual Olympic summit. Whether for fitness, personal challenge, or the thrill of competition, everyone had a chance to enjoy the fun together in this employee wellbeing initiative 💪

The medals and prizes have arrived, and it’s time to give the floor to our winners. After three weeks of intense competition, there’s a deep breath of relief with a gold medal. Today, we’re speaking with our hero, Volha Klimkovich.

Why have you decided to participate in the Exadel Olympic Games?

It was a perfect idea for me to switch from life challenges and my everyday routine. I’m grateful to the company and the organizers for this opportunity.
Also as someone with a sports background and regular training, I was curious how far I could get.

Why did you choose the calorie stream?

I chose the calorie stream because it aligned well with my active lifestyle. As a figure skating coach and gym-goer, incorporating calorie-burning activities into my routine was relatively easy. I still do yoga and other activities, so the step stream would have required significant changes, like canceling gym sessions. I wanted to maintain my regular routine while pushing myself to new limits.

Do you have a sports background?

Absolutely! I’m a former figure skating coach and a master of sports in figure skating. I’ve been involved in sports since I was five, from figure skating and aerobics to stretching and yoga. Growing up, I spent countless hours in training camps, with daily workouts and cross-country runs. Sports have always been a major part of my life.”

How do you manage to fit it all into your life?

While I don’t currently have five workouts a day, except during competitions, I’ve found a way to balance a busy schedule with regular exercise. I typically aim for four to five workouts a week. Having a coach helps keep me accountable, and I’m a big believer in planning. I use a daily schedule to ensure I stick to my workout routine.

The support from friends, family, and colleagues was incredible. It was really unexpected and heartwarming. The Exadel Olympic challenge also revealed my inner strength and endurance. I realized I'm capable of far more than I ever thought possible

Did you set specific calorie goals?

Yes, I had a clear strategy. Initially, I aimed for the top three. Knowing I was competing against men, I didn’t hope to become the first. However, I set a daily goal of burning 1,500 calories. I was incredibly motivated during the first week, even going for late-night runs. After seeing my strong initial performance, I regained focus and increased my daily goal to 2,000 calories. To find the most effective workouts, I experimented with different activities, like jazz-funk dance and boxing. When I temporarily dropped to fourth place, my competitive spirit ignited. I pushed myself to burn 4,000 calories daily, meticulously planning my workouts and sacrificing sleep. The thrill of competition and the desire to win fueled my extraordinary efforts.

Will you change your daily routine after the contest?

Moving forward, I plan to incorporate more cardio into my routine to maintain my improved metabolism and overall well-being. I’ve also fallen in love with boxing and will definitely continue that.
