Like a spider spinning its web—strand by strand, patient and precise—we’ve been building something of our own at Exadel. Not silk threads, but digital ones. Meet our Web Development Department: a place where 300+ IT engineers—our own digital weavers—work every day to create both webs of digital solutions and webs of connections.
This network spans continents. And every person is part of the structure that holds it all together. Today, on World Wide Web Day, we invite you to explore both. In our conversation, Alexander Alitoits, Exadel’s Web Department Head, shares what fuels the team to build seamless digital experiences used by millions every day.
What should people know about your Web Department?
The Web Department brings together engineers from across Exadel’s international offices, fostering a mix of global perspectives and expertise. The team covers everything from modern front-end frameworks (like Angular, React, Vue) to robust backend (Node, Python, PHP) and integration work – always focused on maintainable, scalable solutions for clients in finance, healthcare, consulting, and other industries.
Our expertise extends to cloud-native architectures, leveraging platforms like AWS, Azure, and GCP, and applying AI-powered tools & technologies to deliver intelligent, future-ready applications.
Beyond the official job requirements, what are the main unofficial qualities you look for when hiring engineers?
While we always look for technical skills, the key ‘not mentioned’ criteria is a proactive mindset paired with strong communication skills.
We value engineers who:
✔ Are continuously upskilling and open to professional growth
✔ Can clearly articulate problems and solutions
✔ Value collaboration, ownership, and real impact—not just task completion
✔ Stay true to being a Software Engineer, not just a specialist in one language or framework
✔ And yes… are fun! Because: No fun, no work 😀
What’s one web development myth people still believe?
A common belief is that web development is monotonous. In reality, it’s anything but that. It’s a dynamic, ever-evolving field where curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving come together—offering endless opportunities to grow as a professional.
Could you share some real-life examples from your work that break this myth?
Throughout my career as a JavaScript Software Engineer, I’ve worked on projects ranging from agile startups to complex enterprise systems. Every project has pushed me further—proving again and again that web development is a space where learning never stops.
Here are just a few of the exciting (and definitely non-monotonous) tasks I’ve tackled:
✔ Kicking off enterprise-level Angular applications from scratch, setting up architecture, modules, and scalable components, services design
✔ Exploring beta versions of Vue.js, adopting experimental features early on, and contributing feedback to the community
✔ Implementing adaptive web design to ensure seamless experiences across various devices and screen sizes
✔ Configuring Service Workers and building Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) for offline support and enhanced performance
✔ Proactively mitigating security risks based on OWASP recommendations
✔ Optimizing AWS costs through smart architecture decisions, resource allocation, and scaling strategies
✔ Addressing table component performance bottlenecks when dealing with massive datasets-intelligent rendering to ensure smooth UX even with thousands of rows
✔ Building and integrating CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, deployment, and delivery of frontend applications
✔ Improving web performance and Core Web Vitals scores by fine-tuning lazy loading, code splitting, and asset optimization strategies
✔ Exploring state management solutions like NgRx, Vuex, and custom reactive patterns for complex frontend workflows
✔ Implementing internationalization (i18n) and localization (l10n), ensuring cultural and language adaptation
✔ Ensuring web accessibility, applying Web-ARIA standards – making dynamic interfaces usable for assistive technologies, improving semantic markup, and supporting inclusive design
What would surprise non-Exadellers about working in our Web Department?
Probably how much influence every engineer actually has on client-facing decisions. Even though we’re part of a large company, engineers in our Web Department often work directly with stakeholders—contributing ideas, suggesting improvements, and helping shape solutions, not just delivering on specs. And beyond project work, there are plenty of ways to grow.
Engineers can take on roles like Practices (R&D) Contributor, Resource Manager, Education Manager, Mentor, Coach, Community Contributor, Interviewer, Pre-Sale Contributor, or Process Developer. We also have an active Engineering Community, with online and offline events for knowledge sharing, fresh ideas, and good energy.
Our Web Department also partners with Exadel’s Learning & Development team to support every engineer’s growth—with a clear plan and full support, but your progress is in your hands.
If our Web Department had a theme song, what would it be and why?
Metallica – Fuel. Why? Because it’s all about fire, speed, and power—the ultimate “let’s go” song for hacking, coding, or launching. “Gimme fuel, gimme fire!” Enough said 😄
Fire and speed? We couldn’t have said it better than Alexander. Beyond the soundtrack, this conversation reminded us of something important: every web—whether spun by a spider or built in code—starts with a purpose. And every thread matters. That’s what our Web Department is made of: people connected by shared goals, building something bigger together.
Happy World Wide Web Day—explore our open roles and join our global network!
